A large number of developments were comprehensively tested on Radical’s fleet of SR9, SR8 and SR5 cars at Donington Park yesterday.

First off was the works SR5, driven by test pilot, Jaap van Largen.  New differential, shock absorbers and aero settings were evaluated.  The car was soon lapping in the 1:07’s on hard compound Avon tyres.

Radical co-founder, Phil Abbott also drove the car and proclaimed, “the car is extremely fast, but arguably more importantly to our customers, you can put in fast lap after fast lap with little effort.  The SR5 is extremely easy to drive, and with even more developments in the pipeline we will continue to get even faster.”

The SR8 was fitted with Radical’s new paddle-operated auto-blipper.  This was the first time the system, which was developed for the new SR8LM (with it’s 8 throttle body induction system) has been tested on the twin-butterfly induction system of the SR8.

Phil Abbott tested the car and was soon lapping in the 1:04’s.  The shift system allows flat shifting going up the gearbox, and does away with the requirement to heel-and-toe coming down.  Phil explained, “the paddle-operated shifter system worked perfectly, it is so simple now to go down through the ‘box from sixth-to-first whilst braking hard.

The SR9 was also out, driven by a number of drivers including Sam Hancock, who was preparing a report for Autosport.  Testing was focussed on running a new front nose, front diffuser, rear wing and new compound Dunlop tyres.

Paul Thomas, who managed the test, was very positive.  “We are moving forward all the time.  With some fine tuning, I am confident that we will achieve our downforce targets.  The SR9 is the undisputed fastest of the Dunlop-shod cars and with new tyres coming on-stream, i am confident we can be the class leader."
