FAQs

Below you will find the answers to many frequently asked questions. If you still need help contact us here. Click any of the questions below to reveal the answer.

What support will be available, if any?

At every round of the Radical UK Cup and Radical Clubmans Cup, Radical Sportscars will provide a lorry packed full of spares from wings stays to body clips to spare engines and gearboxes to a lowly washer.

If you have any special requirements just contact the Radical spares department a week or so before the event and we will endeavour to have that part on board.

Radical Sportscars have a "floating technician" available at every meeting. If you have a specific question that needs answering or a problem with "set-up" etc our technician is there to help.

Powertec Engineering also have a "floating technician" available at every meeting to help you deal with engine/gearbox problems.

Radical Sportscars can recommend proven "driver-coaches" and data technicians if you need help with your driving technique and data analysis. Dunlop will provide tyres and a fitting service at each round of the championship.

What can I offer my sponsors?

The Radical UK Cup and The Radical Clubman’s Cup will form part of the Dunlop “Great & British” Motorsport Festival package.  Each round of the British Radical Cup will be televised as part of this package (to be shown on MotorsTV and Sky Sports).  Other benefits of this package include Grid/Pit lane “walkabouts” during the lunch break on both days allowing the public, sponsors and guests chance to get close-up to the racing cars and talk to the drivers.

At each round of the Radical UK Cup and Radical Clubmans Cup,  Radical Sportscars will provide a Hospitality Area where all drivers will be able to take their sponsors. The cost of passes for the drivers will be included in the entry fee while passes for your guests for the Hospitality Area must be purchased in advanced – contact Amanda Abbott (01733 331616).

The Hospitality area will be warm and dry in the winter months and shaded and cool in the summer months.  It will provide an area where you can meet, greet and talk to your sponsors away from the hustle and bustle of the team garage/awning.

Food and drink will be available on both days of the race weekend, ranging from hot/cold lunchtime buffets to cakes and sandwiches for afternoon tea. Each Saturday evening of the race weekend will see a different “themed” night in the hospitality area ranging from hog roast to Italian night. If you have any special requests please contact Amanda Abbott (01733 331616).

If you would like a space where you can promote your sponsors for instance a display/presentation board, the hospitality area has space for it.  Please contact Amanda Abbott (01733 331616) for costing details.  Sponsors can also advertise on your race-car, race overalls or in the race day programme.

If you have a major sponsor Radical Sportscars can offer full or part Championship Sponsorship packages – please contact Mick Hyde for more details (01733 331616).

What about test days?

At each venue of the Radical UK Cup and Radical Clubman’s Cup there will be the chance to participate in a Trackday on the Friday before the weekend. The track day will be booked with RMA Trackdays (www.rmatrackdays.com or 0845 2604545).

Passenger rides will be allowed – perfect for taking out an instructor or sponsors. Radical drivers will not have to be registered for the championships in order to take part in the trackday so if you have a Radical car and you would like to take part we would be pleased to see you.

All drivers wishing to book for the RMA Days must be registered with RMA (£25 for 1 year). Once registered all bookings can then be done online – www.rmatrackdays.com  Bookings will be taken by RMA Trackdays from early January 2009 for the season and places will be awarded on a first-come-first-served basis. More details on the RMA Days will be available nearer the start of the season.

There are also many Testdays available throughout the year at the individual circuits (details below). The Radical Championship regulations do not prohibit testing in any way so drivers are free to participate in as many Test days or Track days as they wish.

There are many professional Race Driving Instructors familiar with the Radical range of sportscars and who have driven in the Radical championships for many seasons. If you would like to tap into this wealth of knowledge by working with an instructor on a test day please contact Amanda Abbott (01733 331717 ext 201), who will be able to put you in touch.

Do I need a team to run my car?

This depends on: • how much time you have to work on your car between meetings • how much knowledge of cars/engines you have • space where you keep your car etc It is possible to be self-run and many owners do a fantastic job in preparing and running their own cars. However if you do not have the time or the know-how you may want to look at other options. If you have some knowledge but need to increase it in order to run your car on your own you may want to consider running your car with a team that has the facility to offer assistance without doing the full running:

If you do not have any knowledge of running a car, do not have the time or just want to be able to arrive at the circuit and drive your race car knowing that you car is being looked after by a professional and proven team:

Do I need to own a Radical Race car to take part in the championships?

No you don’t need to be an owner to take part in the championships.

There are a number of teams who own cars for hire.  Most teams will want to hire the car for a full season but some teams are willing to hire a car for a single meeting.

Hire costs will vary from team to team so it is worth contacting more than one team for a quote.

Below is a list of teams who have cars for hire:

Where can I get spare parts etc for my Radical car?

There are several ways of buying spare parts for your Radical car. By phone: Call Ben, Mike, Jon or Phil in Spares on 01733 331717 and place an order by phone to be shipped out to you or you can come and collect at our factory.

By person: If you are close to or passing by our Peterborough factory feel free to call in. Our Spares department will be able to help you.

Online: www.radicalextremesportscars.com/online/index.php You can now order all spares from nuts and bolts to bodywork to pens, keyrings and t-shirts online.

At the race track: Our fully-stocked Spares Truck will attend all Dunlop “Great & British” rounds plus Spa Francorchamps and Silverstone GP. If you require a specific part to be available at the Race Track please speak with Ben in Spares before the race meeting.

How do I start racing?

If you have never raced before and you think that it’s the sort of thing that you would like to do you must apply for a special licence, attend a Race Driving School (optional but is recommended) and pass your Association of Race Driving Schools Examination (ARDS).

You can choose where you do your Driving School – most popular Race Circuits operate schools, eg Silverstone, Castle Combe, Snetterton, Oulton Park, Pembrey.  Some of the Schools have a 3 or 4 day course which include lessons on ‘Heeling and Toeing’, skid control, overtaking etc and other Schools will just take you through the ARDS Exam.

All applicants will need to undergo a basic medical with their own doctor – there will be form sent to you in your Race Licence Application Pack.  Applicants of a certain age may also be required to undergo a “stress related ECG”.

Steps to becoming a fully fledged racing driver:
• Visit the web pages of each of the race schools and decide which one suits your needs ie closest to home, best dates available etc
• Apply to MSA (The Motor Sport Association this is the governing body for all UK Motor Sport.  The MSA issues race licences) for a Race Licence Application Pack. ( www.msauk.org )
• Book your Race School – more information on Race Schools and ARDS tests come with your Race Licence Application Pack.
• Take your ARDS exam
• PASS!!!

What do I do next? / Upgrading your Licence
When you receive your National B Race Licence you will be able to enter any MSA event in the UK provided it holds a National B Licence – all Dunlop “Great & British” events accept National B Licences. Some meetings in the UK and most European meetings will require drivers to hold a National A race licence – the two rounds of the Radical UK Cup which go to Spa Francorchamps and Silverstone GP will require a National A Licence.

When you “sign-on” for your first race you will be asked if you would like your licence signing.  In order to upgrade you must obtain 6 signatures from the Clerk of the Course.  Inside your blue MSA Handbook that you receive with your licence you will find a card page – this is your Upgrade card.  Complete and hand in your Upgrade card to the Race Secretary at signing on.

The Radical Club Cup events are all “double-headers” so if you drive well and keep out of trouble the Clerk will reward you with two signatures.  The Radical UK Cup has “double-headers” where you are eligible for two signatures and longer single races where you will only receive one signature.  To qualify for a signature you must finish the race and demonstrate to the Clerk that you understand the rules of racing.

Races outside the EU
If you wish to race in countries outside of the EU you will need to apply for an International Licence – please refer to the MSA website for more information (www.msauk.org )
