Radical Sportscars is the world’s largest manufacturer and constructor of dedicated track-day and racing cars, with a global customer base of owner-drivers supported by dealers in over 32 territories. The Company also comprises successful Precision Engineering and Engines businesses and is looking for a high-calibre Manufacturing Engineering Manager.

Reporting to the CEO, you will be responsible for leading a small team of millers, turners, cnc operators and programmes to deliver an exceptional manufacturing engineering service: improving process control, efficiency, business development and the introduction of new designs. You will be responsible for the installation, maintenance and improvement of production lines and ensuring that Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are adhered to.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manufacturing and test process design: Provides manufacturing solutions to increase the bottom-line profitability of operations (production processes, work methods, materials flow, workflow, people skills, and productivity).
  • Ability to assess component designs and determine manufacturing methods to produce new parts to ensure capability and cost targets are met.
  • Working as part of a cross functional team to conduct FMEA’s and control plans where appropriate to ensure processes are suitably assessed and controlled in line with Quality and Productivity targets.
  • Determine workflow requirements based on volume, Takt time, cost, and quality targets to ensure both single piece flow where possible or present justifications for cellular or batch production as appropriate.
  • Define Capital Equipment purchases and justification to support new product initiatives.
  • Manage Departmental Timing Plans and Open Issues to ensure overall project compliance and business development.
  • Provide hands on support to own and other Departments to ensure Quality, Cost and Effectiveness Targets are met.
  • Constantly seek opportunities for improvement, utilising metrics, Value Stream Mapping, statistical tools, and best practice to drive improvement outcomes.
  • Develop and implement significant improvements in department wide processes, procedures, and systems.
  • Implement Standard Operating Procedures (not writing). all areas of responsibility.
  • Health and Safety awareness will be amongst your main priorities and Health and Safety guidelines should be actively adhered to and promoted.
  • Development of the Precision Engineering Team and alignment of departmental strategy with group & site initiatives.
  • Day to day people management including activities such as training and career development, (Technical Excellence) absence management, performance management, recruitment etc.
  • Work closely at with Business Development Manager and Sales team to both source new sales opportunities and at the start of product conception, giving input for manufacturing engineering concern.
  • Carry out contract review with suppliers
  • Source all materials relevant to work- load and job cards.
  • General administration, tech data sheets, compilation of quality reports and final cfcs.
  • SQA- due diligence
  • Financial reporting and Accounts and invoice management
  • Supply chain and logistics planning
  • Kanban and stock profile management
  • Department plant maintenance
  • Operation of business management system

Skills and Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in Engineering or related subject.
  • Experience of Process Engineering within an Operations Environment, including Cell Layout, Manufacturing Process and Workstation Design.
  • Demonstrable knowledge in NPI (New Product Introduction) and associated activities.
  • Full understanding of Lean Manufacturing Techniques and Six Sigma.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and knowledge of PFMEA, VSM, SPC and Quality Control Techniques.
  • Knowledge of Cad systems to generate design of parts and tooling.
  • Ability to work with staff at differing levels.
  • Good understanding of ISO & OHSAS requirements.
  • Strong communication skills, very customer focused.
  • Ability to assess and upgrade procedures and systems.

  • Use of conventional CNC equipment, and manual CNC tools.
