Laguna, COTA And Livestreamed Road Atlanta Complete 2020 Blue Marble Radical Cup Calendar

Back to the news

The final three races of the 2020 Blue Marble Radical Cup have been confirmed. Laguna Seca, Sept 11-13, has replaced the previously scheduled Sonoma event. The visit to Circuit of the Americas, now Oct 23-25, has been brought forward a month to sit on the weekend vacated by Formula 1. And the shuffle has allowed Road Atlanta, Nov 19-22, to be brought back onto the schedule.

“Somehow in the middle of a pandemic the stars have aligned to give Blue Marble Radical Cup drivers an even better line up of tracks and events to the second half of 2020,” said Radical Sportscars regional manager for North America, Tom Drewer.

“We’re honored to be showcasing Radicals alongside the Porsche Sprint Trophy USA West series at Laguna Seca. It’s been nearly two years since we’ve had SR3s and SR8s screaming down the Cork Screw, and we expect a big turnout of Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch members along with Radical Northwest drivers.

“Replacing F1, along with SCCA Pro’s F4 and Formula Regional series, is a bit of a coup for the Blue Marble Radical Cup, and we’re glad to have secured Circuit of the Americas back on the 2020 schedule. With a large contingent of Texan Radical owners it’s an important event, and always attracts a large grid.

“And we’ll end the year with a four-day festival as part of SVRA’s Road Atlanta Grand Prix. We’re also continuing the tradition of having each of the grand finale’s three races livestreamed– like we did last year at COTA, which received thousands of views (and is shown below)– and the awards banquet will follow the final race on Sunday.”

Each event has at least an hour of flag to flag practice time, followed by qualifying and three 40 minute races.

The confirmation of the schedule means the 2020 Blue Marble Radical Cup season has been reduced from its originally planned six rounds to five, but crucially the new dates continue the series mantra of only visiting ‘bucket-list’ tracks while ensuring plenty of time between events to lessen the impact on drivers’ work and family lives.

The November finish also ensures series racers have the opportunity to compete in the famed 25 Hours of Thunderhill, Dec 5-6, which Radical won last year with a Turn 3 Motorsport run SR3 1340.
