Radical SR1 Cup Leads UK Motorsport Back Onto The Track

Back to the news

The Radical SR1 Cup, Radical’s entry-level championship will lead UK competitive motorsport back onto the track, forming the first qualifying and first race of MSVR’s opening Snetterton 200 meeting next weekend (Saturday 4th July). The first SR1 Cup race of the 2020 season will also be the first Motorsport UK race since COVID-19 restrictions were imposed nationwide in late March, and forms the opening round of a reformulated four-round calendar that Radical has scheduled from now until October.

Now in its eighth season, the SR1 Cup has become well established as the go-to formula for the aspiring sport-prototype racer. The field at Snetterton includes a mix of new and returning SR1 racers, all ready to experience competition in their near-identical 182bhp SR1 Cup racers.

Amongst the new faces on the grid, Radical welcomes Frazer McFadden, making the switch from off-road ATV racing into circuit competition for the first time. Frazer impressed at Radical’s Donington Park pre-season test – just days before lockdown was imposed across the UK – so will be looking to bring the pace he’s seen in other motorsport disciplines to the SR1 Cup.

TFL Racing, stalwarts of VdeV, Fun Cup and Caterham competition enter the SR1 Cup paddock in 2020 with two new competitors to the field. Friends Will Alterman and Ian Ellis move across from Formula Ford 1600 competition, and are relishing the challenge of adapting to the downforce – and paddleshift gearchange – of the Gen2 SR1.

After several exploratory outings in 2020, former Ginetta racer Nick Zapolski is contesting the entire 2020 SR1 Cup season having purchased last year’s title-winning car, formerly in the hands of Shane Stoney. He’s sure to be one to watch for the title, along with 2019 championship protagonists Ross Elliott and Will Hunt. In the Fangio trophy, also look out for Simon Bailey, Paul Clark, Gavin McAlpine and Paul Tagg, all returning for another season of fast, close racing in the first step of Radical’s racing ladder.

Qualifying on Saturday commences at 09:00 with Race 1 at 11:35, and Race 2 16:35 BST. Keep up to date with the action by following live timing on https://www.tsl-timing.com and via updates across Radical’s social media channels.
